Eurovent published new testing standard for performance measurements of residential air filters

The industry recommendation introduces a testing method applicable for filters having rated maximum air flow from 70 to 1000 m³/h, and fills a gap regarding existing and upcoming international standards

With ‘Eurovent 4/22 – 2015’, the Eurovent association has published a new testing standard for residential air filter performance measurements. By covering filters having a rated maximum air flow from 70 to 1000 m³/h, the industry recommendation fills a gap regarding existing ISO and EN standards. Eurovent’s document is forward-thinking and anticipates the upcoming ISO 16890 standard, which deals with ‘Air filters for general ventilation’.

‘Eurovent 4/22 – 2015’ refers to particulate air filters for residential applications having an efficiency ePM1 of less than 99 %. It describes the technical specifications, requirements and an efficiency classification system based upon fractional efficiency measurement and a Particulate Matter reporting system. The method is applicable for filters having rated maximum air flow from 70 to 1000 m³/h.

According to Mr Jan Andersson, Chairman of the Eurovent Product Group ‘Air Filters’, the new testing method would ‘bring clarity to the market by covering an area that had so far not been fully covered by ISO or EN standards’. He goes on stating that the industry recommendation would ‘contribute to a level-playing field through ensuring comparable test results that are based on the same testing method’.

‘Eurovent 4/22 – 2015’ was developed by the Eurovent Product Group ‘Air Filters’, which represents more than 20 manufacturers from Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa that hold a market share of more than 90 % in EMEA concerning air filters for general ventilation. In parallel, Eurovent’s independent subunit Eurovent Certita Certification (ECC) in Paris runs a globally applied performance certification scheme for air filters of more than 1000 m³/h, which is the first one of its kind and verifies the performance of filters through independent and accredited third-party laboratories. These test results are publically accessible on ECC’s website.
